I mean, this was fine? It was hard to care which on the surface seems weird. Zack did go after the neck. Will did Will things to fight back. Zack went for lots of submissions. He transitioned an Octopus to a variation to put extra pressure on the neck. Zack won with that. That is better storytelling than loads of pro wrestling.
All of that was fine and dandy. I’m trying to understand though why I did not really care much though. The best I can do was that there was a sense of fatigue here to this match. Now, a story about fatigue would be one thing. Two wrestlers in the heart of a month-long tournament lends itself well to such stories.
Instead though, it was like two guys trying to do a “real” match but they were less than fully committed to it. It made the match feel flat and phony in comparison to their best work. (**3/4)
