AJ Styles vs. Baron Corbin from WWE 2017

If the push of Jinder Mahal is a great example of setting up a new guy to fail, the long con push of The Big Breakfast is a great example of setting up a new guy to succeed.

This was not some amazing match or anything, but it made Baron look strong without getting some outrageous over-push. He had a competitive, back-and-forth battle with the ace of Smackdown. It was a very physical match where Baron’s strengths were emphasized and with none of his weaknesses really on display.

Baron even ended up losing this match but looked like a force in doing so. AJ leaped off the apron with a big forearm that sent Baron into the crowd. AJ then took the countout win. This was just solid wrestling and simple booking to make everyone involved look good. It’s not that hard. (***1/4)
