Story of the Match: Much like the BDK, it makes zero sense that Mike Quackenbush’s character would willingly book the Gekido. Perhaps there will be an explanation down the line, but it makes zero sense right now. Pieces of Hate are still technically the Chikara tag team champions, but the physical belts were purchased by Kimber Lee and presented to Jolly Roger and Lance Steel. The commentators basically said that they had no idea what the situation was and that we should pay attention to what Quack has to say about it in the future. Art imitating life?

The first portion of the match was a ton of back and forth action. The match might as well had been a Texas tornado atomicos match, as the tecnico teams and the rudo teams worked with each other. Once 3.0 became the first eliminated team, the Throwbacks were at the disadvantage. The Throwbacks appeared to be working together much better than the last time I saw them in Chikara. That development must have happened in Wrestling Is. The Throwbacks eventually overcame the odds and eliminated both teams. Touchdown pinned The Shard with a Fucking Machine Suplex.

There was a side story where the newest Chikara students (Kid Cyclone, Create-A-Wrestler, Equinox) attacked deviANT when deviANT attacked Dasher after the Gekido got eliminated.

Analysis: This match contained some moments and sequences that I greatly enjoyed. I also liked that The Throwbacks were pushed strong. However, the match really dragged after 3.0 got eliminated. This match is another case of the storyline (The Throwbacks overcoming the odds) overwhelming enjoyment (the light hearted fun and solid action before the eliminations).

Match Rating: **3/4
