The Great Sasuke vs. TAKA Michinoku from WWF 1997

July 6, 1997
Calgary, Alberta

Right before this match started, Hunter Hearst Helmsley and Mankind showed up as they had never stopped brawling. This was a good thing to get over the Hunter/Mankind feud, but it definitely did no favors for TAKA and Sasuke.

They started out tentatively. Things picked up, and Sasuke hit a diving thrust kick to the floor. Bananas. TAKA fought back and hit his double-jump plancha. “What a samurai warrior this TAKA Michinoku is,” said the owner of future publicly-traded company. Sasuke fought back and hit an Asai Moonsault. TAKA came back and hit the Michinoku Driver, but Sasuke kicked out. Sasuke came back with a series of movez and finished TAKA with a bridging Tiger suplex.

This was just a movez showcase match, but it was a ton of fun. It’s a shame WWE doesn’t make matches like this happen anymore.
